How to get prepare for surgery: Steps and Instructions

  1. Physician and Cardiac Clearance: Essential before any surgery. The Physician/cardiologist decides the necessary tests and provides a clearance letter.
  2. Insurance and Fees: Our insurance coordinator will inform you of procedure-related fees before the pre-op visit.
  3. 5 Days Prior: Cease blood thinners, NSAIDs, supplements, and vitamins, unless directed by a physician.
  4. Pre-Op Visit (1 Week Before Surgery): Review procedure, sign consent, bring x-rays, investigation reports, and medication list.
  5. Day Prior: No food/drink after midnight. Use antibacterial soap for the morning shower, and avoid cosmetics.
  6. Arrival and Registration: Arrive as instructed. Admitted a day before open/MIS surgery, 3-4 hrs before endoscopic. Bring patient ID and insurance info.
  7. Post-Surgery: Shifted to room 1-2 hrs post procedure. Endoscopic: walk and discharge the next morning. MIS/Open: rest for a day. Gradual activity increase follows:
    • – Day 1-2: Sitting
    • – Day 2-3: Standing/Walking
    • – Day 3-4: Washroom walk, meals sitting
    • – Day 4: Discharge
  8. Follow-up Visits: Wear a belt at home for 2 weeks. Scheduled visits:
    • – 2 weeks post-op
    • – 6 weeks post-op
    • – 3 months post-op
    • – 6 months post-op
